Meet Alexia!
How did you first hear about L’Arche?
Alexia was living in London working as an aupair and had been wanting to go somewhere new when she first heard about L’Arche. She had read about Camp Hill (another organization providing communal living) online, but that was more rural and she wanted to be in the city. She kept searching and stumbled across an online story where a woman was writing about her L’Arche experience. Alexia was impressed by the way the woman talked about L’Arche and it felt like luck that she found this woman’s tory and heard about L’Arche. Alexia was drawn to the communal nature of L’Arche. Having previously lived in houses with others as an au pair, first in France and then in London, this was familiar to her. For Alexia, living in community presented a great opportunity to grow more and learn from others – which is exactly what she was wanting!
Where did you grow up?
Alexia grew up with two brothers, one older and one younger. She has moved a lot in her life but she grew up in Minas Garaes, Brazil. She remembers it being a close neighborhood where you could play in the street and all the neighborhood kids would wake up early and go play and go out.
What is something we might not now about you?
Alexia likes to dance! She use to dance forró, a partnered dance that’s popular in Brazil but hasn’t yet found a place to dance here. She also enjoys learning to climb.
What is bringing you joy?
Alexia has been enjoying going to the gym and hanging out with community. “Everyone’s been so nice,” she said. She’s really looking forward to celebrating halloween and going to a pumpkin patch because they don’t have that in her hometown.
