Remembering Sister Rosemary Connelly

Published 15 July 2025

We were deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Sister Rosemary Connelly. A tireless advocate for the rights and dignity of individuals with developmental disabilities in the Chicagoland area, Sister Rosemary leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of compassion and leadership.

Sister Rosemary played a pivotal role in founding and growing Misericordia, a community of care that supports individuals with mild to profound developmental disabilities. She began the community with 39 children and over the course of three decades, expanded care to aid over 600 people.

Known for her kind heart, joy, and unwavering dedication, Sister Rosemarie is a well-known figure in the Chicagoland community. Her impact expands well beyond Misericordia. Her life continues to inspire organizations like L’Arche Chicago. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all whose lives were touched by Sister Rosemarie.
