During the August community night, we watched an #AsIAm documentary video from L’Arche Internationale about Katherine, a member of L’Arche New Zealand. Katherine was 57 when she lost her mother, an event that triggered her desire to live independently. The film documents her journey and carries a message that even though one might live alone, one is not alone, as Katherine remains close to her L’Arche family.
The showing was followed by enthusiastic discussion on the following topics:
- What does it mean to be independent versus interdependent?
- Has there been an event in your life that inspired you to make a big change?
- Why is it so important for Katherine to be able to do things by herself (i.e. cooking)?
