Anders always says, “It’s good to stay busy.” Everyone who knows him knows this is more than a saying; it’s Anders’s rule of life.
For the past several years, Anders has proudly represented L’Arche Chicago nationally through his work with L’Arche USA’s Inclusive Leadership Group (ILG). He’s also represented our community internationally through his work with L’Arche International’s Great Voices Group.
Last month, Anders and Molly joined the ILG team in Woodstock, Illinois, to present to L’Arche USA’s Extended Leadership Team and Community Leaders from around the country. Presenting to a room full of leaders might make some people nervous, but Anders found excitement in sharing the group’s new tool, All Voices: A Guide to Supported Speaking and Listening, which helps ensure core members are not only heard but embraced as the guiding voice in community life.
Sharon, an ILG leader, shared how proud she is of Anders and the ways he has stepped into his role as a senior member of the ILG.
“Anders is living into his seniority on the team. That shows up as him supporting newer members and keeping an eye out for them in person, offering his ideas more often, and leaning into his strengths, for example, asking the clarifying questions that help us make our language more accessible for all. We are also really grateful for his ability to connect our L’Arche USA work to his work happening internationally,” Sharon shared.
To round out the trip, Anders, Molly, and their ILG friends explored Woodstock and visited some of the locations where the movie Groundhog Day was filmed.
Anders once again showed his upbeat nature and positive spirit. As always, his work on this trip reminds us that while he moves quickly, he also moves with intention, thoughtfulness, and care. Thank you, Anders and Molly, for all your hard work and for sharing your voices and leadership with L’Arche!
